The road is located on the island of Lefkada. In November 17, 2015, a 6.4 Richter earthquake took place and caused severe damages to this road. The geological and geotechnical studies revealed bad state of the ground and with their findings, the transportation study suggested several measures to ensure road safety. In particular, energy fences and concrete walls along the road were designed. Also, perpendicular stream flow was diverted away from the road to increase safety for passengers.
